Possible Causes
Heat pump reversing valve O/B setting reversed, Outdoor condenser not running due to contactor or capacitor failure, Low refrigerant charge (equipment-side), Y1 circuit miswired to heat instead of cool
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the outdoor unit at the disconnect before opening any panels. Refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician.
- Check O/B configuration: For heat pumps, verify in the Wyze app whether the reversing valve should energize in heat or cool and set it according to the manufacturer’s specification.
- Verify outdoor unit operation: When cooling is called, check if the outdoor fan and compressor are running. If not, the issue is in the outdoor unit (contactor, capacitor, high-pressure switch) and requires a technician.
- Confirm Y1 wiring: Ensure the Y1 wire from the thermostat goes to the Y terminal on the furnace/air handler and then to the outdoor unit contactor.
- Check air filter and airflow: A severely clogged filter can reduce cooling effectiveness; replace if dirty.
