Possible Causes

Faulty automatic voltage regulator (AVR), Loose stator winding connections, Shorted stator winding, Defective rotor excitation circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Open the main breaker or transfer switch to isolate the generator from the building. Turn OFF the generator and disconnect the battery. Verify with a meter that no AC voltage is present before touching wiring.

  • Inspect main output connections: Remove the generator's electrical access panel and check that all lugs on the output terminals and breaker are tight. Look for discoloration or melted insulation indicating overheating.
  • Check AVR connections: Locate the automatic voltage regulator module inside the alternator or control compartment. Ensure all plug connectors are fully seated and free of corrosion.
  • Measure output (qualified persons only): With proper PPE and a true RMS multimeter, start the generator and measure line-to-line and line-to-neutral voltages at the generator terminals. If voltage is very low or unstable, suspect the AVR or excitation circuit.
  • Visual inspection of stator/rotor: With the unit off and cool, inspect through access covers for burnt windings or strong burnt smell from the alternator.
  • If E06 remains: AVR or alternator repair requires specialized testing and parts. Contact an authorized A-iPower service center for AVR or stator/rotor replacement.
