Possible Causes
Insulation failure in cables, Moisture ingress in alternator, Incorrect neutral‑earth bonding, Faulty earth fault relay or CT
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: De‑energize the generator and isolate from all loads. Ground faults can be dangerous.
- Visual inspection: Check generator output cables, junction boxes, and ATS for signs of moisture, burns, or damaged insulation.
- Insulation resistance test: Using a megohmmeter (qualified personnel only), test phase‑to‑earth and neutral‑to‑earth resistance. Identify and repair low‑resistance paths.
- Check alternator for moisture: Inspect the Aksa alternator for condensation or water ingress. Dry the unit thoroughly before re‑energizing.
- Verify earth fault CT and relay: Ensure the earth fault CT is correctly installed and wiring to the controller is intact. Replace a faulty relay or CT if readings are inconsistent.
- Re‑test: After repairs, clear the E18 alarm and run the generator under supervision while monitoring earth fault status.
