Possible Causes
Discharged starting battery, Loose or corroded battery terminals, Faulty battery charger module, Defective starting battery
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF and ensure the main AC breaker is open. Wear eye protection when working around batteries.
- Measure battery voltage: Using a multimeter, measure across the battery posts. A healthy 12 V battery should read about 12.6 V at rest. If below 12.0 V, the battery is discharged.
- Inspect terminals: Remove and clean the battery terminals with a wire brush. Reinstall and tighten securely. Apply dielectric grease to reduce future corrosion.
- Check battery charger: With utility power present, measure voltage at the battery again. It should rise to around 13.2–13.8 V if the All Power America onboard battery charger is working. If voltage does not increase, check the charger fuse and AC input. Replace the battery charger module if it has power but no output.
- Load-test the battery: If the charger is working but the battery will not hold charge, have the battery load-tested or temporarily substitute a known-good battery of the same rating.
- Clear E05: After correcting the issue, attempt a manual start to clear the code.
