Possible Causes
Faulty ignition coil, Defective spark plug, Damaged ignition module or control board, Broken or shorted ignition wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect the battery. Keep fuel sources away from ignition testing.
- Inspect spark plug: Remove the spark plug(s) from the All Power America engine. Check for heavy carbon, oil fouling, or cracked porcelain. Clean or replace with the exact plug type and gap specified in the manual.
- Check for spark: Reconnect the plug wire to the removed plug, ground the plug body to the engine, and briefly crank the engine while observing the gap. A strong blue spark should be visible. If no spark, proceed to coil testing.
- Test ignition coil: Disconnect the ignition coil leads and measure primary and secondary resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the specifications for your model. Replace the ignition coil if readings are out of range.
- Inspect ignition wiring: Trace the wires from the control board to the ignition coil and any ignition module. Repair any damaged insulation or loose connectors.
- Controller output: If the coil and wiring are good but there is still no spark, the control board's ignition driver may have failed and the control board will need replacement.
