Possible Causes
Connected load exceeds generator rated capacity, Short circuit on load side, Weak or failing main breaker, Faulty current sensor on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Open the generator main breaker and any downstream breakers before troubleshooting. Confirm that utility power is available to avoid loss of critical loads.
- Reduce load: Identify and disconnect high-demand appliances (HVAC, electric water heaters, large motors) from the standby circuit. Restart the generator and gradually reapply loads while monitoring current draw.
- Check for shorts: Inspect the transfer switch and load panel for signs of burned wiring or tripped branch breakers. A shorted circuit will cause immediate overload.
- Inspect main breaker: If E09 occurs even at low load, the All Power America main breaker may be weak. Replace the breaker with an OEM-rated replacement of the same amperage.
- Current sensor check: Some models use a current transformer (CT) feeding the controller. Inspect the CT and its wiring for damage. If the CT is open or shorted, replace it.
