Possible Causes
Open control wiring between generator and automatic transfer switch (ATS), Faulty ATS start relay, Misconfigured controller input, Damaged control board input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and lock out the utility and generator sources at the transfer switch before opening any covers.
- Inspect control cable: Locate the low-voltage control cable between the All Power America generator and the ATS. Check for physical damage, rodent chewing, or pulled connectors. Repair or replace damaged cable.
- Check terminal connections: Tighten all control wiring screws at both the generator control terminal strip and the ATS terminal block. Look for loose or corroded terminals.
- Test start signal: Simulate a utility failure per the ATS manual and measure for the presence of a start signal (often a dry contact closure) at the generator control terminals. If the ATS is not sending a signal, troubleshoot or replace the ATS start relay.
- Controller configuration: Verify that the generator controller is set to accept remote start from the ATS (refer to the All Power America controller programming section). Correct any misconfiguration.
