Possible Causes
Open or shorted fuel shutoff solenoid, Failed LPG/NG gas valve coil, Blown fuel solenoid fuse, Broken wiring to fuel solenoid
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect the battery, and shut off the fuel supply. Work in a well-ventilated area.
- Locate fuel solenoid: On gasoline models, the fuel shutoff solenoid is typically mounted on the carburetor bowl. On LPG/NG models, the gas valve coil is near the regulator.
- Check fuse: Inspect the fuel solenoid fuse on the control board or in the fuse block. Replace with the same rating if blown, and investigate for shorts if it blows again.
- Measure coil resistance: Disconnect the solenoid connector and measure coil resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the specification. An open or very low resistance coil indicates a failed solenoid.
- Verify voltage during crank: Reconnect the battery, and while cranking, measure DC voltage at the solenoid connector. If no voltage is present but the controller is calling for fuel, the control board driver may be faulty.
- Replace faulty component: Install a new All Power America fuel shutoff solenoid or gas valve as required.
