Possible Causes
Governor linkage stuck in high-speed position, Incorrect governor adjustment, Faulty engine speed sensor, Control board governor output failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect the battery, and keep clear of moving parts. Overspeed can cause severe mechanical damage.
- Inspect throttle and governor: Check that the throttle plate is not stuck open due to debris or corrosion. Clean and lubricate as needed.
- Adjust governor: Follow the All Power America service procedure to set the governor arm position and spring tension so that no-load frequency is correct.
- Check speed sensor: Inspect and test the engine speed sensor as described in the E03 procedure. Replace if faulty.
- Controller check: If mechanical components are correct but overspeed persists, the controller's governor output may be defective and the control board should be replaced.
