Possible Causes
Worn starter motor brushes, Seized starter drive, High resistance in starter cable or solenoid, Partially discharged battery
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF, disconnect the battery negative cable, and ensure the main breaker is open.
- Check battery first: Confirm battery voltage and condition as described in the low battery procedure. Replace if weak.
- Inspect starter connections: Tighten the large positive cable at the starter solenoid and the engine ground strap. Clean any corrosion.
- Bypass test: Briefly jump the starter solenoid terminals with an insulated tool (battery connected) to see if the starter spins strongly. If it does not, the starter motor is likely faulty.
- Replace starter: Remove the mounting bolts and electrical connections from the All Power America starter motor. Install a new starter of the correct part number and torque bolts to specification.
