Possible Causes
Fuel restriction under load, Weak turbocharger performance, Incorrect governor settings, Overloaded generator
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Keep personnel clear of rotating parts and live conductors. Do not repeatedly slam full load onto a weak engine.
- Test no‑load operation: Run the generator with breaker open. If it runs smoothly, the issue is load‑related.
- Apply load gradually: Close the breaker and add load in steps while monitoring frequency and engine response. Note the kW level at which stalling occurs.
- Inspect fuel system: Replace fuel filters and check for collapsed hoses that may restrict flow at higher demand.
- Review load size: Ensure the connected load does not exceed the generator rating. Large motor loads may require soft starters or staggered starting.
If stalling occurs at modest loads, governor or engine performance tuning by a technician is recommended.
