Possible Causes
Battery charger overcharging, Incorrect charger model installed, Poor battery connection causing false high reading, Controller sensing circuit fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the controller to OFF and disconnect AC power to the charger if possible.
- Measure battery voltage: With a multimeter, verify actual battery voltage. If above ~14.8 V on a 12 V system, the charger is likely overcharging.
- Inspect charger wiring: Confirm the Briggs & Stratton charger is wired per the installation manual and that the correct voltage tap (if selectable) is used.
- Check connections: Loose or corroded connections can cause the controller to misread voltage. Clean and tighten all battery and sense wires.
- Replace charger if faulty: If measured voltage remains too high with proper wiring, replace the charger with the correct Briggs & Stratton part number.
- Clear the code: After correcting, cycle the controller to OFF then AUTO and verify normal charging voltage.
