Possible Causes
Failed ignition coil, Defective ignition control module, Damaged spark plug wires, Faulty crankshaft position or timing sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disable automatic start and keep clear of moving parts. Fuel vapors may be present.
- Check spark plugs: Remove and inspect plugs for fouling, cracks, or wear. Clean or replace with Briggs & Stratton-specified plugs and set correct gap.
- Test for spark: Use an inline spark tester on each plug wire while cranking. No spark indicates coil or ignition module issues.
- Inspect ignition coil and wiring: Verify the coil is securely mounted and its ground is clean. Check the low-voltage trigger wires from the controller or ignition module for damage.
- Replace faulty components: If no spark is present and wiring is intact, replace the ignition coil or ignition control module with Briggs & Stratton parts.
- Clear the code: After repair, cycle controller to OFF then AUTO and test start.
