Controller displays OC and generator will not start or shuts down shortly after cranking.

Safety first: Place the generator in OFF on the AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch. Turn off utility and generator main breakers before working. Allow engine to cool and keep all ignition sources away from fuel.

• Check fuel supply: Verify the LP or NG gas supply is turned on at the service valve. For LP, confirm tank is not empty and regulator is not frozen. For NG, ensure house gas shutoff is open and other gas appliances are operating normally.
• Inspect fuel line and solenoid: Follow the fuel line to the carburetor-mounted fuel shutoff solenoid. Listen/feel for a click when switching from OFF to MANUAL. If no click, check wiring at the solenoid and controller. If wiring is intact, the fuel solenoid may be defective.
• Check spark: Remove a spark plug wire, install a known-good spark tester, and crank in MANUAL. If no spark, inspect ignition coil connections, engine ground, and the low-oil shutdown circuit. Replace the ignition coil or spark plug if faulty.
• Air and compression: Confirm the air filter is not completely blocked. If the engine cranks very fast with little resistance, internal engine damage or low compression may be present and a technician should be called.
• Clear the code: After correcting the issue, move the switch to OFF for 30 seconds, then back to AUTO. Start in MANUAL to verify normal operation. The OC code should clear after a successful run.
