Possible Causes
Aged or sulfated starting battery, Failed Centurion battery charger, Loose or corroded battery terminals, Excessive parasitic draw from control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF and open the DC fuse or disconnect the negative battery cable before cleaning terminals.
- Inspect battery: Check the date code on the battery. If older than 3–5 years, replacement is recommended.
- Clean terminals: Remove the negative cable first, then positive. Clean corrosion with a baking soda and water solution and a wire brush. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
- Check charger output: With the unit in AUTO and AC utility present, measure battery voltage. It should typically be around 13.2–13.6 VDC. If it remains near 12 V or lower, the Centurion battery charger may be faulty.
- Recharge or replace: Fully charge the battery with an external charger, then reinstall. If it will not hold charge, replace with the correct cold-cranking-amp (CCA) rated battery.
When to call a technician: If a new battery still shows low voltage, a technician should test the onboard charger and control board for proper DC output and replace the charger module if needed.
