Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Set controller to OFF, open the generator AC breaker, and close the gas shutoff valve before disconnecting any fuel components. Gas work should be done by licensed personnel.
- Confirm gas valves fully open: Check all manual gas valves from the meter or LP tank to the generator and ensure they are fully open.
- Inspect flexible fuel hose: Look for kinks, crushing, or damage to the flexible connector at the generator.
- Replace fuel filter: If equipped, shut off gas and replace the inline fuel filter with a Champion-approved part.
- Check for icing: In cold weather, inspect the regulator and piping for ice buildup that could restrict flow.
- Have gas piping evaluated: If the generator only faults under heavy load, the gas piping may be undersized. A gas contractor should verify pipe sizing and pressure drop.
Do not attempt to drill or modify gas orifices or regulators; this is unsafe and will void warranties.
