Possible Causes
Corrupted controller firmware, internal hardware failure, moisture intrusion into control panel, power surge damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the controller to OFF, open the generator AC breaker, and disconnect the battery negative cable.
- Inspect control panel: Open the controller cover and look for signs of water ingress, corrosion, or burnt components on the circuit board.
- Dry moisture: If condensation or minor moisture is present, gently dry the area with a clean cloth and allow the unit to air dry completely before reconnecting power.
- Check harness connections: Reseat all multi-pin connectors on the controller to ensure good contact.
- Power cycle controller: Leave the battery disconnected for at least 5 minutes, then reconnect and see if the E15 code clears.
- Firmware update (dealer): An authorized Champion dealer may be able to reload or update the controller firmware using factory tools.
If E15 persists, the controller assembly will likely need replacement.
