Possible Causes
Loose oil filter, loose drain plug, crankshaft seal leak, valve cover gasket leak
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn controller to OFF, open the AC breaker, and allow the engine to cool before touching hot surfaces.
- Locate source: Wipe down the engine and then run briefly to identify the leak source. Look around the oil filter, drain plug, valve cover, and crankshaft seals.
- Tighten filter and plug: Carefully snug the oil filter and drain plug if they are seeping. Do not overtighten, as this can damage threads or gaskets.
- Replace gaskets/seals: If a valve cover gasket is leaking, remove the cover, clean surfaces, and install a new gasket. Crankshaft seal leaks usually require professional service.
- Clean up spill: Absorb spilled oil with appropriate materials and dispose of properly.
Always maintain oil at the correct level after repairing leaks.
