Generator starts and runs but is surging or hunting at no load

Safety first: Place controller in OFF and open the AC breaker before touching moving parts. Keep hands and tools away from rotating components when running.

• Inspect and clean air filter: Replace a dirty filter to ensure proper airflow.
• Check governor linkage: With engine off, move the throttle and governor linkage by hand to ensure smooth, free motion.
• Use fuel system cleaner (if approved): For some models, a technician may introduce an approved cleaner into the fuel stream to remove minor deposits.
• Verify fuel pressure: Have a gas technician confirm inlet pressure is stable and within Champion specifications.

If surging persists, carburetor or mixer disassembly and cleaning may be required by a professional.
