Fault Code 1682
Cummins
Low DC Supply Voltage
Controller displays Fault Code 1682 – Low Battery Voltage; generator may fail to start or controller resets intermittently
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Discharged starting battery, Failing battery charger, Loose or corroded battery terminals, Parasitic DC load when generator is idle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disable automatic start. When working on DC circuits, avoid shorting battery terminals; use insulated tools and eye protection.
- Measure battery voltage: Use a multimeter at the battery posts. For a 12 V system, below ~12.0 V indicates a low state of charge. Charge the battery fully or replace if it fails a load test.
- Inspect connections: Clean corrosion from battery posts and cable lugs with a wire brush. Tighten all battery and ground connections, including the chassis ground strap.
- Check battery charger: With AC utility power present, measure output from the Cummins battery charger. It should provide a float voltage around 13.2–13.6 V (12 V system). If no output, check its AC supply fuse/breaker and replace the charger if failed.
- Parasitic loads: Ensure no unauthorized devices are connected to the generator’s DC system. The controller and charger are designed for continuous connection; additional loads can drain the battery.
- Reset: After correcting voltage issues, clear the fault and verify the controller remains powered and stable.
