Possible Causes

Clogged air filter element, Collapsed intake hose, Obstruction at air intake grille, Faulty intake manifold pressure sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the generator to OFF and ensure it cannot start automatically. Allow moving parts to stop before opening the enclosure.

  • Inspect air filter: Open the air filter housing and remove the Cummins air filter element. If it is heavily soiled or past service interval, replace it with the correct Cummins filter. Do not run without a filter.
  • Check intake ducting: Inspect the rubber or plastic intake hose between the air filter and turbocharger/throttle body. Look for kinks, collapse, or internal obstruction. Replace damaged hoses.
  • Clear intake grilles: Ensure the generator enclosure intake louvers are free of leaves, snow, or debris. Clean screens and grilles.
  • Sensor and wiring: Locate the intake manifold pressure sensor. Inspect the connector for corrosion and ensure the harness is intact. If the fault persists with a clean intake, the sensor may need replacement.
  • Reset and test: Clear the fault and run the generator under load, monitoring intake readings on the controller if available.
