Possible Causes
Boost leak at charge air cooler hoses, Clogged air filter, Sticking turbocharger vanes or seized turbo, Faulty boost pressure sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disable automatic start and allow the engine to cool before touching exhaust or turbo components.
- Check air filter: Replace a dirty Cummins air filter element to ensure proper airflow.
- Inspect charge air hoses: Examine rubber hoses and clamps between the turbocharger, charge air cooler, and intake manifold. Tighten loose clamps and replace split or oil-soaked hoses.
- Turbocharger condition: Visually inspect the turbo for excessive oil leakage or damage. Gently check for shaft play if accessible. Significant play or noise indicates the need for turbo replacement.
- Boost sensor: Locate the boost (MAP) sensor and inspect the connector. Clean any oil contamination from the sensor port. Replace if readings remain abnormal.
- Reset and test: Clear the fault and run under load while monitoring boost pressure via the controller if available.
