Possible Causes
Engine unable to carry load due to fuel restriction, Governor or throttle control fault, Excessive load applied suddenly, Speed sensor signal issues
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disable automatic start and disconnect nonessential loads before troubleshooting.
- Check load level: Review what loads are being transferred. If the generator is overloaded, reduce load to within the kW rating of the Cummins set.
- Fuel system: Inspect fuel filters and supply lines for restriction. Replace clogged filters and ensure valves are fully open.
- Governor/throttle: Observe throttle linkage or electronic actuator for smooth movement. Binding or sticking may require cleaning or replacement.
- Speed sensor: Inspect the engine speed sensor and wiring for damage or loose connections.
- Reset and test: Clear the fault and run with a gradual load increase, monitoring frequency on the controller.
