Corrosion / Environmental Damage
Corrosion and rust visible on generator frame and electrical connections
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Exposure to moisture and salt air, Inadequate enclosure sealing, Lack of anti‑corrosion treatment, Poor drainage around pad
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect battery negative, and ensure no live AC is present at exposed terminals before cleaning.
- Clean corrosion: Use a wire brush and contact cleaner on corroded terminals and ground points. Replace severely corroded lugs.
- Apply protectant: After cleaning, apply dielectric grease to electrical connections and a rust‑inhibiting spray to metal surfaces.
- Improve drainage: Ensure the generator pad is above grade and that water does not pool around the base.
- Seal enclosure: Replace worn door gaskets and ensure all access panels close tightly.
