Possible Causes
Open or shorted control cable between ATS and generator, Incorrect ATS wiring to start/stop terminals, Faulty ATS control board, Misconfigured generator control module input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF utility power at the main breaker and place the ATS in the OFF or MANUAL position per the manual. Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative before working on control wiring.
- Inspect control cable: Follow the multi‑conductor cable from the automatic transfer switch (ATS) to the generator control panel. Look for physical damage, rodent chewing, or pulled connectors.
- Verify terminal connections: Open the ATS and generator control panel. Confirm that the start/stop, common, and feedback wires are landed on the correct terminals as shown in the DuroMax wiring diagram.
- Continuity test: With power off, use a multimeter to check continuity of each control conductor from ATS to generator. Repair or replace any open or shorted conductors.
- Check controller settings: In the generator control menu (if available), verify that remote/ATS start mode is enabled and that the correct input type (dry contact vs. voltage) is selected.
- ATS board fault: If wiring and settings are correct but the generator does not receive a start signal, the ATS control board may be defective and require replacement.
