Possible Causes
Faulty magnetic pickup sensor, Damaged flywheel teeth or reluctor ring, Loose sensor mounting or incorrect gap, Broken RPM signal wire to controller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect battery negative, and allow the engine to stop completely.
- Locate speed sensor: Find the magnetic pickup or Hall‑effect sensor near the flywheel or crankshaft. Refer to the DuroMax service manual for exact location.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Check for oil contamination, metal shavings, or physical damage on the sensor tip. Inspect the harness for chafing or broken insulation.
- Check sensor gap: Measure the air gap between the sensor and the flywheel teeth/reluctor. Adjust to the specified gap (commonly 0.5–1.0 mm) using feeler gauges.
- Test continuity: With the sensor unplugged, measure resistance across its terminals. Compare to the specification. An open or shorted sensor should be replaced.
- Replace sensor if needed: Install a new DuroMax‑compatible speed sensor, set the correct gap, and secure the mounting.
