Possible Causes
Failed ignition coil, Defective ignition control module, Damaged spark plug wire, Faulty crankshaft position sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect battery negative, and ensure fuel is shut off before working near ignition components.
- Check for spark: Remove a spark plug, reconnect its wire, and ground the plug body to the engine. Crank the engine and look for a strong blue spark. No spark indicates an ignition problem.
- Inspect spark plug wire: Look for cracks, burns, or loose boots. Replace damaged wires with DuroMax‑approved ignition leads.
- Test ignition coil: Measure primary and secondary resistance of the coil and compare to specifications. Replace the coil if readings are out of range.
- Check crank sensor: Inspect the crankshaft position sensor and its wiring. A failed sensor will prevent the ignition module from firing the coil.
- Module replacement: If coil, plugs, and sensor are good, the ignition control module or integrated controller may be defective and should be replaced by a technician.
