Possible Causes
Stuck carburetor float or needle valve, Leaking fuel injector (EFI models), Excessive choke application, Faulty choke solenoid stuck closed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, close the fuel valve, and disconnect battery negative. Avoid sparks or flames near fuel vapors.
- Ventilate area: Open the enclosure and allow fuel vapors to dissipate before proceeding.
- Clear flooded cylinders: Remove spark plugs and crank the engine briefly to expel excess fuel. Allow cylinders to dry, then reinstall clean, dry plugs.
- Inspect carburetor: Remove the carburetor bowl and check the float and needle valve for debris or sticking. Clean with carburetor cleaner and ensure the float moves freely and seals properly.
- Check choke operation: Verify that the choke plate opens fully after start. On electric choke models, test the choke solenoid for proper movement and replace if stuck.
- EFI models: If equipped with fuel injection, a leaking injector or high fuel pressure may be the cause. This requires professional diagnosis and injector replacement.
