DuroMax Battery Not Charging / Parasitic Drain

Generator battery repeatedly goes dead between outages

Advertisements

Possible Causes

Failed onboard battery charger, No AC supply to charger, Parasitic draw from accessories, Sulfated battery

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative before testing the charging system.

  • Check charger power: Confirm that the generator's internal charger is connected to a live AC source (often utility power inside the enclosure).
  • Measure charge voltage: With utility power present, measure voltage at the battery. It should be around 13.2–13.6V. If only battery voltage is present, the charger may be faulty.
  • Inspect fuses: Check any inline fuses between charger and battery and replace if blown.
  • Replace charger or battery: Install a new DuroMax‑compatible charger if it is not outputting. Replace an old or sulfated battery that will not hold charge.
