Controller shows E06 and the generator shuts down when loads are applied.

Safety first: Place the generator in OFF mode and open (turn off) the main breaker on the generator. Ensure the transfer switch is in utility position before working on any wiring.

• Reduce load: Review the total wattage of connected circuits. Ensure the combined running and starting loads do not exceed the DuroStar standby generator's rated kW. Temporarily disconnect non‑essential loads and try again.
• Inspect main breaker: Check the generator's main circuit breaker for signs of overheating, burning, or mechanical damage. Cycle it OFF and ON several times. Replace the breaker if it feels loose, will not reset, or shows visible damage.
• Check for short circuits: With the generator OFF and isolated, inspect the load wiring from the generator output lugs to the transfer switch for damaged insulation, pinched cables, or water intrusion. Repair any damaged conductors.
• Test transfer switch: Have a qualified electrician open the automatic transfer switch and inspect the contactor and wiring for burns or welded contacts. Replace the DuroStar‑compatible transfer switch contactor or entire switch if damaged.
• Gradual load test: After repairs, start the generator with no load, then add loads in stages while monitoring current draw and verifying that E06 does not reappear.
