Possible Causes
Failed fuel shutoff solenoid, No power to solenoid from control board, Stuck solenoid plunger, Broken solenoid wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, close the fuel supply valve, and disconnect the battery before working on the fuel solenoid.
- Locate fuel solenoid: On many DuroStar engines, the fuel shutoff solenoid is mounted on the carburetor bowl or fuel rail. Identify the electrical connector and fuel line connections.
- Listen for operation: With the solenoid connected, turn the key ON and OFF while listening for a click at the solenoid. No click suggests a power or solenoid issue.
- Check voltage: Use a multimeter to verify that the solenoid receives battery voltage when the controller commands fuel ON. If no voltage, inspect fuses, relays, and wiring from the control board.
- Bench test solenoid: Remove the solenoid and apply 12V directly to its terminals. The plunger should retract fully. If it does not move or is sticky, replace the solenoid.
- Reinstall and test: Refit the solenoid with new sealing washers if required, open the fuel valve, clear E17, and attempt a start.
