Possible Causes
Loose or worn alternator/water pump belt, Misaligned pulleys, Contaminated belt (oil or coolant), Seized accessory bearing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect the battery, and allow the engine to cool before touching belts or pulleys.
- Inspect belt condition: Look for cracks, glazing, or fraying. Replace the belt if worn.
- Check belt tension: Press on the belt midway between pulleys; adjust tension to the specification in the DuroStar manual by moving the alternator or tensioner.
- Clean pulleys: Wipe oil or coolant from pulleys and replace any leaking seals that contaminate the belt.
- Spin accessories: Rotate the alternator and water pump pulleys by hand. If rough or seized, replace the faulty component.
