Possible Causes
Failed Eaton battery charger module in control panel, Blown charger fuse or tripped breaker, No AC supply to charger due to wiring issue, Loose charger output connections to battery
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn generator OFF and open the AC supply breaker feeding the charger if separate. Use caution around live AC circuits.
Steps:
- Verify AC input: With a meter, confirm that the charger’s AC input terminals receive the correct voltage from the utility (typically 120 V).
- Check fuses: Inspect any inline fuses or breakers on the charger input and output. Replace blown fuses with the same rating after correcting underlying faults.
- Measure DC output: With AC applied, measure DC voltage at the charger output terminals or directly at the battery. It should be around 13.2–13.6 V. If zero or very low, the charger is likely defective.
- Inspect wiring: Ensure the charger’s positive and negative leads are securely connected to the battery posts and not corroded.
- Replace charger: Install a new Eaton-approved battery charger module and verify proper float voltage.
