Possible Causes
Low coolant level or trapped air, Failed radiator fan or fan relay, Blocked radiator fins due to dirt or debris, Stuck closed thermostat restricting coolant flow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Shut down the generator and allow it to cool fully. Do not open the radiator cap while hot.
Steps:
- Check coolant level: Verify coolant is at the proper level in the overflow tank and radiator.
- Inspect radiator and fan: Check that the electric or belt-driven fan operates when the engine warms up. Clean debris from radiator fins with low-pressure air or water.
- Check fan fuses/relays: Inspect fuses and relays controlling the radiator fan in the Eaton control panel. Replace any failed components.
- Thermostat evaluation: If overheating persists with correct coolant level and fan operation, the thermostat may be stuck closed and should be replaced.
- Retest under load: After repairs, run the generator under load and monitor coolant temperature via the controller.
