Possible Causes
Coolant leak at hoses, radiator, or water pump, Loose radiator cap or overflow hose, Faulty coolant level sensor in radiator or expansion tank, Air pockets in cooling system after service
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the engine to cool completely before opening any coolant caps. Hot coolant can cause severe burns.
Steps:
- Check coolant level: Inspect the coolant level in the overflow tank or radiator (if accessible). Top off with the specified coolant mixture if low.
- Inspect for leaks: Look for dried coolant residue or wet spots around hoses, clamps, radiator core, and water pump. Tighten clamps and replace damaged hoses.
- Check level sensor: Locate the coolant level sensor and inspect its connector and wiring. If the level is correct but the alarm persists, test or replace the sensor.
- Bleed air: If the system was recently serviced, bleed air from high points per the engine manual to prevent false low-level readings.
- Clear alarm and test: After correcting issues, clear the alarm and run the generator while monitoring for leaks.
