Possible Causes

Undersized or restricted gas piping to Eaton generator, Closed or partially closed manual gas valve, Faulty primary gas regulator at meter or LP tank, Clogged fuel filter or debris in generator-mounted regulator

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn generator OFF and disable automatic start. Gas work can be hazardous—if you smell gas strongly, evacuate and contact your gas utility.

Steps:

  • Verify valves: Trace the gas line from the meter or LP tank to the generator. Ensure all manual shutoff valves are fully open.
  • Check for kinks or damage: Inspect exposed gas piping and flexible connectors for kinks, crushing, or corrosion.
  • Filter/regulator inspection: At the generator, locate the fuel filter and secondary regulator. Replace the filter if equipped and check for contamination. Do not disassemble regulators unless qualified.
  • Gas pressure test: Have a licensed gas technician measure static and dynamic gas pressure at the generator inlet while cranking. Compare to Eaton’s specified minimum. If low, the upstream regulator or piping must be corrected.
  • Clear alarm: After restoring proper pressure, clear the alarm and perform a test run under load.
