Possible Causes
No gas supply to engine, Ignition coil or spark plug failure, Clogged fuel mixer or carburetor, Low compression due to engine wear or valve issues
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disable automatic start and limit crank attempts to avoid flooding and starter damage.
Steps:
- Confirm fuel: Verify gas valves are open and that other gas appliances are functioning. For LP, check tank level and regulator frost.
- Check spark: Remove a spark plug, reconnect its wire, and ground the plug body to engine metal. Crank briefly and look for a strong blue spark. Replace plugs or ignition coil if no spark.
- Air and fuel path: Inspect and replace the air filter if dirty. If accessible, check the fuel mixer/carburetor for contamination; cleaning may be required.
- Compression check: If fuel and spark are present but engine will not fire, a compression test by a technician is recommended to assess internal engine condition.
