Possible Causes
Failed AVR or excitation winding, Open circuit in alternator stator leads, Tripped or failed main breaker, Loose or burned connections at output lugs
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Open the generator output breaker and verify with a meter before touching any conductors.
Steps:
- Check main breaker: Ensure the generator’s main breaker is in the ON position and not tripped. Reset if necessary.
- Measure at lugs: With the generator running and breaker ON, measure voltage at the alternator output lugs. If zero, suspect excitation/AVR or internal alternator fault.
- Inspect wiring: With power off, check all alternator leads and terminal blocks for loose or burned connections.
- AVR replacement: If wiring is intact and no voltage is produced, replace the AVR with the Eaton-specified part. If still no output, alternator repair or replacement is required.
