Generator runs but no AC output, display shows E03 and output breaker will not stay engaged
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF and disconnect it from the building transfer switch or any loads. Never work on live AC circuits.
- Remove all loads: Unplug all devices from the generator outlets and open (switch OFF) the main output breaker on the generator.
- Reset breaker: After 1–2 minutes, press the breaker fully to OFF, then back to ON. Restart the generator with no loads connected and check if E03 clears and voltage appears at the outlets.
- Test with a small load: Plug in a single low‑wattage device (e.g., 60 W lamp) directly into a 230 V socket on the Einhell panel. If it works without E03, the issue is likely in the building wiring or excessive load.
- Check transfer switch and circuits: If E03 appears only when the automatic transfer switch (ATS) connects the house, inspect the ATS wiring and downstream circuits for shorts or overloaded circuits. This should be done by a qualified electrician.
- Inspect panel receptacles: With power OFF, visually inspect the Schuko/CEE sockets on the Einhell control panel for burn marks, melted plastic, or foreign objects. Replace any damaged socket modules.
If the breaker trips immediately with no load, the output breaker or alternator windings may be faulty and should be tested and replaced by an authorized Einhell service center.
