Generator fails to start in automatic mode, display shows E06 (starter fault)
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Set the generator to OFF and isolate it from the mains. Wear eye protection when working around batteries.
- Check battery voltage: Using a multimeter, measure the Einhell starter battery at rest. It should be around 12.6 V for a fully charged 12 V battery. If below 12.0 V, recharge or replace the battery.
- Inspect battery terminals: Clean any corrosion from the battery posts and cable clamps using a wire brush. Tighten the clamps securely. Check the ground strap from the battery negative to the frame.
- Listen for starter relay click: In AUTO or START mode, command a start and listen for a click from the starter relay. If there is no click, check the relay connector and fuses in the control panel. Replace a faulty starter relay with an Einhell‑specified relay.
- Check starter motor connections: Ensure the heavy cable from the relay to the starter motor is tight and not burnt. Loose connections can cause voltage drop and E06.
- Manual start test: If equipped with a recoil starter, attempt a manual start. If the engine runs manually but not electrically, the fault is confined to the starter circuit.
If E06 persists with a good battery and wiring, the starter motor itself may be worn and should be replaced by a service technician.
