Display shows E08 and generator shuts down when ATS attempts to transfer load
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate the generator and ATS from the mains. Lock out and tag out the main breaker. Only qualified persons should work on 230/400 V circuits.
- Verify configuration: Check the Einhell generator's voltage selector (if present) is set to the correct 1‑phase/3‑phase mode as specified for the ATS and building installation.
- Inspect terminal block: Open the generator terminal box and inspect L1, L2, L3, N, and PE connections. Tighten any loose screws and look for discoloration or burnt insulation.
- Check cable to ATS: Inspect the multicore cable between generator and ATS for damage, crushed sections, or water ingress. Repair or replace damaged cable.
- Measure phase voltages: With the generator running (by a qualified electrician), measure L1‑N, L2‑N, L3‑N and L1‑L2‑L3. Significant imbalance (>10%) suggests alternator or AVR issues.
- Confirm phase sequence: Ensure the phase order at the ATS matches the generator output. Incorrect phase rotation can trigger E08 on some Einhell controllers.
If wiring and configuration are correct but E08 persists, the alternator windings or controller may be defective and require professional service.
