Possible Causes
Low engine oil level, Failed oil pressure switch/sender, Oil pump wear or blockage, Wiring fault between sender and control module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Place the FG Wilson standby generator in OFF/STOP and isolate the battery negative terminal. Ensure the set cannot start automatically (disable auto mode and remote start signals).
- Check engine oil level: Use the dipstick on the Perkins engine (or other engine fitted). Top up with the correct grade oil specified on the FG Wilson data plate. Do not overfill.
- Inspect for leaks: Look around the oil filter, sump gasket, rocker cover, and oil cooler hoses for fresh oil. Repair leaks before restarting.
- Verify oil pressure switch/sender: Locate the oil pressure switch on the engine block (usually near the oil filter). Disconnect the harness plug and check for corrosion or loose pins. Clean and reconnect. If you have a multimeter, test continuity according to the engine manual (normally closed to ground with no pressure on mechanical switches).
- Check wiring to the Deep Sea / PowerWizard / FG Wilson control module: Trace the loom from the oil pressure sender back to the control panel. Look for chafed insulation, crushed sections, or loose connectors in the junction box.
- Test run: Reconnect the battery, set the controller to MANUAL, and crank while monitoring the oil pressure gauge (if fitted). If the engine starts and runs but the alarm persists, the sender or wiring is likely faulty and should be replaced.
- Do not bypass protection: Never permanently bypass the oil pressure switch; this can cause severe engine damage.
