Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Utility circuits can be lethal. Only qualified persons should open the ATS or main service panel. Turn OFF the generator and lock out the ATS if possible.
- Check utility sense fuses: Inside the Firman generator control compartment, locate any fuses labeled for line sensing or utility input. Test and replace blown fuses with the same rating.
- Inspect sense wiring: Verify that the small-gauge wires used for voltage sensing from the ATS to the generator controller are intact and properly landed on the correct terminals.
- Confirm ATS wiring: Compare the ATS wiring to the Firman installation diagram to ensure the utility lines are connected to the correct lugs and sense points.
- Measure utility voltage: With proper PPE and a meter, confirm that normal line voltage is present at the ATS and at the generator sense terminals.
If E16 persists with correct wiring and voltage, the controller's sensing circuit may be defective and require replacement by a service technician.
