Possible Causes

Defective oil level sensor (if equipped), Shorted oil temperature sensor, Damaged wiring harness to oil sensors, Incorrect sensor installed

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect battery negative, and allow the engine to cool.

  • Verify oil level: Confirm with the dipstick that oil level is correct. Top up if needed.
  • Locate oil sensors: Some Firman standby engines use a combined oil level/temperature sensor in the oil pan or crankcase. Identify the sensor and its connector.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the oil sensor to the control board for chafing, oil saturation, or broken insulation. Repair as needed.
  • Test sensor: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance according to Firman specifications. If readings are out of range or shorted, replace the sensor.

After replacement, reconnect wiring, clear E17, and test run. If the fault remains, the controller input circuit may need professional diagnosis.
