GE Environmental Corrosion Damage

Corrosion or rust forming inside the generator enclosure

Possible Causes

Poor drainage around pad, Salt air exposure, Leaking roof or enclosure seals, Condensation due to temperature swings

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative before working inside the enclosure.

  • 1. Improve drainage: Ensure the concrete pad slopes away from the generator and that water does not pool around the base.
  • 2. Inspect enclosure seals: Check door gaskets and roof seams for gaps or damage. Reseal with appropriate weatherproof sealant.
  • 3. Remove rust and treat metal: Lightly sand rusted areas, clean, and apply a rust-inhibiting primer and paint compatible with the GE enclosure.
  • 4. Consider dehumidification: In very humid or coastal environments, consider adding desiccant packs or a small enclosure heater (if approved by GE) to reduce condensation.
