Possible Causes
Broken or shorted communication cable, Incorrect termination or wiring polarity, Failed remote display module, Defective GE controller communication port
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn OFF power to the generator and any remote modules before working on communication wiring.
- 1. Inspect communication cable: Trace the low-voltage cable between the GE generator controller and the remote display or ATS. Look for cuts, kinks, or rodent damage.
- 2. Verify connections and polarity: At each end, ensure the communication terminals are landed on the correct labeled screws (e.g., A/B, +/−) and that polarity is consistent.
- 3. Check for proper termination: Some systems require termination resistors at the ends of the bus. Verify these are installed per the GE wiring diagram.
- 4. Test with minimal configuration: Disconnect all but one remote device and see if communication restores. A single failed module can bring down the bus.
- 5. Replace damaged modules or cables: If a specific remote display or cable segment is identified as faulty, replace with GE-approved parts and clear the Comm Fault alarm.
