Possible Causes

Low engine oil level, Faulty oil pressure switch, Clogged oil filter, Actual internal engine wear or damage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Allow the engine to cool before checking oil. Turn the controller to OFF and disable automatic start (remove battery negative cable if necessary).

  • 1. Check oil level: Use the dipstick to verify oil level is within the safe range. Top up with the correct grade oil recommended for your GE standby generator engine. Do not overfill.
  • 2. Inspect for leaks: Look around the oil filter, drain plug, and crankcase gasket for signs of oil leakage. Tighten the oil filter and drain plug if seeping is observed.
  • 3. Replace oil filter and oil (if due): If maintenance is overdue, perform a full oil and filter change using a GE-approved oil filter. A clogged filter can cause low pressure.
  • 4. Check oil pressure switch wiring: Locate the oil pressure switch on the engine block. Ensure the connector is tight and wiring is not damaged or shorted to ground.
  • 5. Test with mechanical gauge (advanced): If you have tools and experience, temporarily install a mechanical oil pressure gauge to confirm actual pressure. If pressure is normal but alarm persists, replace the oil pressure switch.
  • 6. Do not run with suspected true low pressure: If actual oil pressure is low, shut down immediately and contact a technician; running can destroy the engine.
