How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: An open neutral can cause dangerous overvoltage on some circuits. Turn OFF generator and utility power before opening panels. Use a licensed electrician.

  • 1. Inspect generator neutral connection: In the generator terminal box, verify the neutral conductor is securely landed and the lug is tight.
  • 2. Check ATS neutral bar: Open the GE ATS and inspect the neutral bar for loose screws or signs of overheating.
  • 3. Examine feeder cable: Look for physical damage to the cable between generator, ATS, and main panel.
  • 4. Tighten all neutral terminations: With power OFF, tighten all neutral lugs to manufacturer torque specs.
  • 5. Clear alarm and verify voltages: After repairs, restore power and confirm balanced 120 V readings on both legs before clearing the Neutral Fault alarm.
