Possible Causes
Weak spark due to worn spark plug, Clogged fuel jet or carburetor (LP vaporizer on some models), Air in gas line after service, Low battery voltage not yet triggering alarm
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn the controller to OFF and close the gas valve before removing fuel components. Disconnect the negative battery cable before working near the starter or ignition.
- 1. Confirm battery condition: Measure battery voltage; recharge or replace if below about 12.4 V.
- 2. Check spark plug: Remove, inspect, clean, and regap or replace the spark plug with a GE-specified plug.
- 3. Purge gas line: After gas service, air can be trapped. Open the gas valve and attempt several short crank cycles with rest periods to allow fuel to reach the regulator. Do not crank continuously to avoid starter damage.
- 4. Inspect LP vaporizer/carburetor: On LP models, ensure the vaporizer is not iced and that hoses are intact. On carbureted units, clean the carburetor jets if fuel contamination is suspected.
- 5. Try manual start: Use MANUAL/TEST mode to attempt a start while observing for signs of firing. If no improvement, further diagnosis of ignition and fuel systems by a technician is recommended.
