Possible Causes
Controller not in AUTO mode, Faulty utility sensing circuit, Open start signal wiring between ATS and generator, Misconfigured start delay settings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Simulating outages and working in the ATS should be done by a qualified person. Turn OFF breakers before opening panels.
- 1. Confirm AUTO mode: Verify the GE controller is set to AUTO and no active alarms are present.
- 2. Check utility sense status: On the controller, confirm it correctly shows when utility is present or absent. If it always shows utility present, troubleshoot sensing fuses and wiring.
- 3. Inspect start signal wiring: In the ATS and generator, verify the low-voltage start wires are connected per the GE wiring diagram and are not broken.
- 4. Review start delay settings: Ensure the start delay is not set excessively long in the controller menu.
- 5. Test with simulated outage: With an electrician, open the utility feed to the ATS and observe whether the start signal is sent. Repair any control wiring faults found.
